Upon walking in, it reminds me of a cute small little family owned business! We did not know what to do, so the person at the register walked us out and gave us a walk through of what to do! There are many different options for base, whether you want a soup base or a dry pot. I opted for the dry pot because it's peanut flavored and you can adjust spice level. You have options from all different veggies to all different cuts of meats and noodles When you're hungry you end up getting heavy handed, and for both pots we spent $60 Each pound of food is about $16! So, come hungry -- but be careful! They also have a self service sauce bar that is covered with sliding doors (super hygienic and safe imo) Would definitely come back!! Definitely a place I will come back to.
I've been in this establishment on multiple occasions, because it never disappoints. As soon as you walk in, you see the fresh ingredients displayed neatly in their containers. You grab a bowl and a pair of tongs and proceed to build your own hot pot. When you're finished, they weigh your ingredients and you pick a soup base and spice level then pay. The service is always fast, food comes out at a reasonable time. It's a very calm and chill environment and food is amazing.
I absolutely love this build your own hotpot soup/dry pot style restaurant! You pick the items you want inside your bowl and pay based on the weight. Ambiance: Flushing, NYC food court vibes IYKYK. Plenty of seating! Service: You first choose the items you want inside your hot soup or stir fry and then bring them to the register to weight it out. The staff was quick to make my order and bring my soup to the table. The Staff were very attentive and brought napkins to our table a few times. Food: this spot has all of your classic hotpot items! I got tong ho, Nappa cabbage, quail egg, fried tofu skin, Wagyu beef, pork, lamb, tofu skin and many other items. I love that the sauce station is kept so clean and organized! The beef soup -medium spicy was perfectly spicy for me! I'd love to come back!
This is my first time trying mala in Edison, NJ. They have a reasonable selection of seafood, meat, veggies, and noodles. It is $14.99/lb. I love how they have soup pot and dry pot! There's limited parking in front of the restaurant and behind the store, but there's several tables (~20 tables inside). There's a make your own sauce station with a few recommendations in case you're indecisive, and they provide free tea! I got their house special beef bone broth with a medium spicy. There are 3 levels of spice: mild, medium, and spicy. The wood ear mushrooms were not fresh? Because they kind of disintegrated into the soup and had a mushy not crunchy/firm texture. I got some of the sliced lamb, beef, and wagyu, but some of the beef was really fatty. I don't think the dry mix tasted as good as the soup mala.
This is a great concept for Ramen/hotpot place. When you first come in you will grab a bowl and tongs to grab your items for your hotpot. They have different variety s from meats, vegetables, seafood, and other items you put in for hotpot. Once you gather all the items that you want in your bowl then head to the cashier where they weigh your items and ask what broth you prefer. Don't worry they don't weigh the bowl. They assign you a table and bring out the bowl when its prepared. You can add rice for a dollar extra on the side. They have a drink station with lightly sweeten iced tea. It was pretty good tasting that was included. I chose the beef broth the first time here and it was spicy since I requested. I will try the dry one next time. The location has a few parking spots, but its a place to eat and go, not really and sit in restaurant where they have a server. This spot is a great change from the all you can eat places if you don't want a buffet. Sometimes you just want the portion size and nothing more. This is a definitely a place to try if you like hotpot and ramen. The only thing is the parking is limited so there is off street parking as well.
TLDR: helpful staff, great value This was my first time at Mala Town and I had no idea what to do. Luckily, after walking in, one of the staff immediately came to greet me and show me how the system worked. It's basically a self-serve hotpot I love hotpot and I'm so happy that Mala Town is here so I can pay for exactly what I'm eating. The quality of the ingredients is pretty solid and it's a good value too. Whenever I'm considering hotpot Mala Town is going to be a top option for me
Happy Tuesday Adventurers! This place was really awesome. I've done a few hotspots prior to this but this was an experience. I loved that I could chose all the fixings for my own hotpot, especially with the huge variety of them. Parking wasn't bad though I imagine during busy times it would be difficult. It's right off 27 so it's the perfect location to check out other spots like Hmart. They go by pound $14.95 so be mindful for when you're choosing all the fixin's for your pot. When I say they have everything they do--from lobster balls to squid flowers, to frog legs and tripe, including sliced lamb and pork belly. Along with protein they offer at least six different noodles, tofu, and various version that would be considered a starch or carb. The vegetables are equally as vast--mushrooms to pickled eggs--even quail eggs, to several types of mushrooms, and other items found for hotpot. I will definitely be going back to this place because the broth was flavorful and fulfilling (beef broth). Highly recommend anyone to visit this to enjoy the experience of trying all the combos.
Wow, a hidden gem in Edison, NJ! I drove by this area so many times to Hmart and never noticed this hotpot restaurant. Thanks to Yelp and Mala Town for hosting us Yelp elites! First, grab a bowl and tongs and begin adding all the items you want in your hotpot. There's plenty of veggies, seafoods, noodles, and meats. Then, at the checkout counter, weigh your bowl. Don't worry the scale will be set to a negative number so you're not paying for the weight of the bowl itself and only for the food you added in your bowl. Select your broth or you can have it cooked dry with sesame peanut sauce. I selected beef bone broth, medium spicy. The cost is $14.99 per lb and if you want white rice, it is $1 per serving cup. Upon checkout, your receipt will have a table number where you are to be seated and when your food is ready, the employee will bring it to your table. Make sure to stop at sauce station, which is filled with delicious sauces and cilantro/green scallions, etc, to add onto your delicious hotpot. There's also complimentary water/unsweetened tea for customers. Overall, my family and I had a great experience here. The food cooked fast, food is fresh, service is friendly, place is clean, available parking for customers is a plus. I recommend this spot and will definitely be back again. @malatownnj_nyc @YelpNewJersey
You walk in, you grab a bowls and tong then you can start digging and picking what you want in your dry pot or hot pot. This goes by weight, 14.99 a lb. So be mindful that this is not all you can eat! You can also order bowls of white rice for a dollar each. Which I should've done! Rice would have been so good with the spicy beef bone broth I chose. Service is wonderful, the cashier was helpful. After you pay, you would assign a table and your dry pot or hot pot will be brought to you when ifs ready. It did not take me a long time to get my hot pot maybe a good 5-6 mins. During that time, visit the sauce bar and get ice water or cold tea for your table. The restaurant is clean and so are the restrooms I would def go back again!
I love when I have the option of having dry pot with sauce or hot pot with soup! I absolutely loveeee hot pot - it's such a comforting food for me and healthy as well! I decided to try both the dry and the soup pot and I can't choose which I like better! The dry pot comes with a peanut flavored sauce - I chose the medium but it actually wasn't too spicy! For the hot pot I chose a bone broth base and I really enjoyed the mild Mala seasoning! The ingredients are super fresh and exquisite - I didn't expect abalone or tiger shrimp at this spot!! Also, it's nicely decorated with a modern taste! It can be a hearty and quick lunch or dinner spot since you grab your ingredients, pay first, then choose a table to sit. It does take a bit of time for the food to come out but there is also take out if you don't want to wait!
